PAS’ additional container terminal put into official use

The 253-metre-long additional container terminal was officially inaugurated at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) in Preah Sihanouk province this morning under the presidency of Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia. The minister continued that the additional terminal will increase PAS’ capacity from 550,000 TEUs to one million TEUs of containers per year and enable the docking of 10.4-metre-deep cargo ships.

Hun Sen Urges Korea to Invest in Cambodia

Former Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged Korean investors to invest in Cambodia by establishing a Korean Special Economic Zone for Korean investment. Hun Sen noted that the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement is significant because it gives the nation more opportunities to export goods to South Korea.

Ministry of Economy and Finance
introduces 3-Year tax concessions for Airlines

The Ministry of Economy and Finance has issued guidelines on preferential tax and special tax to airlines. According to a statement issued on September 11, 2024, in order to alleviate the burden of the airline to rent aircraft from foreign companies, as well as to alleviate the burden of the people in travel by air.

Ministry says Cambodia’s public debt situation remains at low risk

Cambodia’s public debt stood at $11.27 billion as of the end of the second quarter of this year, according to the Cambodia Public Debt Statistical Bulletin released by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The purpose of these loans is to finance public investment projects in priority sectors that support long-term sustainable economic growth and economic productivity of the country,” the source added.
Cambodia’s public debt situation continues to remain “sustainable and at low risk,” the ministry said in the bulletin.

Cambodia needs to boost value added, embrace globalization

While the government has displayed an exceptional performance in economic integration as part of the movement of globalization, its people and enterprises should not fear the trend but instead view it as an opportunity to improve their comparative advantage to find a place in the global trade. Cambodia will continue to pursue the path of economic liberalization, open trade, and globalization, as well as strive to promote multilateral trade with the WTO.

PM’s Six Pointers to enhance modernization, quality of Healthcare in Cambodia 

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has made six key recommendations to the Ministry of Health, doctors, and health workers in Cambodia to improve the quality of healthcare services.
He also underlined the importance of modernisation to enhance healthcare service delivery in national, provincial, and regional hospitals, with plans for new facilities shortly.

Unions still divided over amount as wage talks close tomorrow

With just one day left before the final round of talks for next year’s wages, unions representing workers in the garment, footwear and travel goods sector have still been unable to reach a consensus on a common figure to put on the bargaining table.
Employers have already agreed to a common stand of $2 but it is not known if they will maintain or increase this figure during the talks tomorrow.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair praises
Cambodia’s rapid progress in meeting with PM (VIDEO)

Mr Blair met the PM in his role as Executive Director of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), which has branches in many countries around the world, including the ASEAN region.
The PM and Tony Blair also exchanged experiences and views on potential areas for cooperation and socio-economic development, including education, vocational training, health, digital and investment.

NBC to Merge Dollar and KHQR into ‘One Code’ for Streamlined Digital Payments

The National Bank of Cambodia has announced plans to merge the dollar QR and KHQR into a unified 'One Code' system to facilitate digital payments within Cambodia and cross-border transactions, promoting riel usage and easing vendor processes. A statement from NBC on September 17 called on all banks and financial institutions not to charge customers for opening or closing a riel account or charge an annual fee for a riel account, and to explain and disseminate the purpose to the public.

Cambodia, China commit to security initiatives

Cambodia and China pledged to enhance bilateral cooperation in security, law enforcement, and anti-drug initiatives, emphasising the importance of collaboration in addressing shared challenges.
This was communicated while Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun, Chairman of the National Authority for Combatting Drugs (NACD), received a courtesy call by Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, yesterday at the Office of the Council of Ministers.
